David H. Holben, PhD, RDN, LD, FAND, completed his doctoral studies at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and is Professor and Gillespie Distinguished Scholar in the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management. He is also Director of the Office of Food and Nutrition Security. Dr. Holben is a registered dietitian nutritionist and was awarded the Medallion Award by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2020. Dr. Holben also holds the Certificate in School Nutrition (Level 4) from the School Nutrition Association and is Harrison Fellow of the Historic Landscape Institute (University of Virgina/Monticello). He is a former commissioned officer in the United States Army Medical Specialist Corps (Reserve Component, 65C IMA, MAJ). Building upon a clinical nutrition and basic science background, his research focuses on food insecurity and nutrition-based STEM education. Exploring the relationship of dietary patterns and chronic disease to food and nutrition security across the lifespan and optimizing solutions for food and nutrition security to promote health and wellness among vulnerable groups are of particular interest.
