Lunch & Learn Event To Focus on Local and Sustainable Foods

Posted on March 16th, 2015 by staff

OXFORD, Miss—On Monday, March 23rd, the University of Mississippi’s Nutrition Clinic is hosting a Lunch and Learn event at Lenoir Hall. The topic of the event will be local and sustainable foods.

According to data provided by United States Department of Agriculture, local foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables are beneficial to both economical development and health. A local food system also provides food security (all people at all times have access to food for a healthy life). These are just a few of the topics that will be discussed at the Lunch and Learn event.

Food will be provided by Oxford restaurant RAViNe, which offers locally grown, fresh and seasonal foods to the community. The menu for the event will be a grilled chicken sandwich; Ravine’s slaw with locally sourced vegetables; and minted fruit salad.

Only 15 spots are available for the Lunch and Learn. The cost is $20 per person and can be paid through payroll deduction, MC, Visa, or cash. Registration deadline for the event is Thursday, March 19th at 5 PM.
